What is Neuroscience Alliance?

The mission of Neuroscience Alliance at UCF is to promote awareness, research, and opportunities in neuroscience at UCF. By encouraging professional relations between students and faculty, students will be provided with opportunities and exposure in current research, potential career paths, and provided with advice and information for a future career in neuroscience. These goals shall be achieved through providing meetings and speeches related to neuroscience, potential outreach in the form of shadowing neuroscience related professionals, volunteering at schools, hospitals, or other such facilities, and creating committees involving projects and ideas relevant to neuroscience within any area such as medicine, philosophy, psychology, biotechnology, psychiatry, computer science, chemistry, cognitive science, linguistics, mathematics, engineering, and physics.

How do I become an active member?

Active member status is delegated to members who complete the following criteria: Attend 2+ GBMs. Complete 5+ volunteer hours within the organization's events. Be a dues paying member. Statistics reset each semester.

What benefits or resources do members receive?

Members can receive various resources, such as included club t-shirts and merchandise, graduation cords, volunteering opportunities, special events, and several perks, for example, the chance to win a free Kaplan course. We also offer various electoral opportunities for leadership positions within the club.

Can non-neuroscience majors join?

All UCF students are welcome to join NSA. We are proud to represent UCF students of all majors and professions who all share a love for neuroscience, or would just like to have fun as a group!

How often does Neuroscience Alliance meet?

Our general body meetings occur biweekly on Monday evenings. For more specific information on upcoming GBMs, socials, and group events, check out our GroupMe, Instagram (@neuroallianceucf), or google calendar!

Are there leadership opportunities within the organization?

Apart from our Executive Board applications that occur every month of April for the new academic year, we offer several directorship positions at the beginning of every fall semester. Directorship positions include Event directors, Marketing directors, Outreach directors, and Fundraising directors. Members are also encouraged to apply for Brain Bee managerial positions if they are interested in being in charge of the annual Brain Bee Event. What is the Central Florida Brain Bee?

The Central Florida Brain Bee is one of the Florioda chapters for Brain Bee (​​https://www.thebrainbee.org) and is a neuroscience-based competition for 9th-12th graders located in the Central Florida region. The CFLBB is annually hosted by leadership and volunteers from Neuroscience Alliance at the University of Central Florida. The 2024 Central Florida Brain Bee is taking place on February 3rd, 2024, at the Psychology building on UCF Main Campus.

How can I get involved with the Central Florida Brain Bee as a volunteer?

There are numerous opportunities for volunteering with CFLBB. Leading up to the regional competition, volunteers from UCF’s NSA provide weekly or bi-weekly teaching sessions for students. Sessions may take place in-person at schools or online via Zoom. Volunteering hours are offered for anytime commuting to schools as well. At teaching sessions, volunteers will teach material prepared by the Central Florida Brain Bee board. No neuroscience experience is required, as you will be prepared by the board. Volunteering at the competition itself is also offered.

Are there any leadership opportunities in Brain Bee?

Yes! Undergraduates at UCF may apply for the Central Florida Brain Bee board and committee. The Central Florida Brain Bee board and committee is in charge of organizing and hosting the event. More information can be found by attending Neuroscience Alliance meetings.

How do I register to participate in the Central Florida Brain Bee as a high school student?

Students interested in participating in the competition may refer to our orientation presentation for more information: Students may participate in the event as a team or a solo student, as long as they have a faculty sponsor (a teacher at their school). Faculty sponsors are only required to offer their room space for teaching sessions and accompany student(s) at the competition.
